The Taiwanese actor once held a 4th Degree Blackbelt in Judo, and had developed a keen interest in sports since childhood. After graduating with a sports major at the National Taiwan Normal University, Shih became a Judo and Karate coach at the police academy. He moved to Hong Kong in the 1970s and signed with the Shaw Brothers, and portrayed the legendary hero Huang Fei-hung in the Wang Feng-directed "Rivals of Kung Fu". He also starred in other Shaw productions, including "The Spiritual Boxers", "Challenge of the Masters" and "The Battle Wizard".
