Sea Eagle (1995) Country confirmation (Singapore)

Postby Young Master » Fri Mar 14, 2008 12:17 am

I thought that I bring up an old topic about the correct country for the movie Sea Eagle. We never came to an final conclusion but if wikipedia and other informative sites will function as a valid confirmation, Singapore is the country. It’s a telemovie-production by the state-owned Singaporean media broadcaster Media Corp.

If it might be a Taiwanese co-production remains unanswered, maybe for forever. How should we do now though? Keep the movie in the database like we‘ve done with other movies which aren‘t made by “qualified” countries? If Singapore would be addable in the country-field I guess most of us would have voted for it to stay, but it isn't addable right?

Singapore is indeed addable (it's one of the selections in the drop-down list), and it would be even better if we could put BOTH countries up there for now, and let time (and future information, and maybe even future editors!) take care of the rest. From the sounds of it, Singapore should definitely be added, but I hope we can leave Taiwan as well, just to be safe.

I brought up the subject of adding multiple production countries (and multiple filming locations) over in the "Hey Bob" thread in the Editors forum, so hopefully it's only a matter of time before the big guy makes a decision!

As for it being from a "qualified country" my personal opinion has always been "who cares, as long as it's in there" and it's country is properly ID'd to keep the naysayer noses in joint , particularly when the film features Hong Kong talent, as this one does. Then, some day, if the site ever allows us to "segment" filmographies, we could simply move the title into the filmographies of just those cast members with careers in Hong Kong cinema, just so their lists remain as complete as possible.

If nobody objects in 15 days I will change the country to Singapore.

We could note the "possible" country in the summary instead where we use to say that "???? is estimated year" for some movies. That way it can be in the DB without being possible incorrect data.

I will do that in 15 days if no one object!

I'm of the same opinion.
