Breakout from Oppression aka Deadly Strike - chinese credits

Postby mcmoinsen » Mon Apr 10, 2006 6:01 pm

/// i renamed the topic, cause i found the movie on hkmdb. mabye the credits can be used for additions anyway. ///

Hi!
I just watched the FACE DVD "Deadly Strike". The Cover is completely nonsense cause it shows modern boxers, a ring, ..

Didn't find the title on this site, so I thought it might be new. Since there is some pretty martial arts and well known actors in it, it should be interesting for the hkmdb.

Here you go with the screenshots:

I might be wrong, but I couldn't find this movie in a collaboration search with those two actors

maybe it is new?

a) hkmdb names this movie "Breakout from Oppression", although the title in the movie is "deadly strike"

b) several dvd sites date the movie from (1978) while hkmdb writes (1973) - can this be verified?

Added two pics, to confirm the crew. Checked the subs for the names of the characters. Two character names were given indirectly: "Au San" & "San Yeh" = "Au San Yeh" , "Chang Brother" "Chiu Ming" is called Chang Chiu Ming I guess. Actor #6 is still not identified.

Actor/actress - Name of the character

    #1 Gordon Liu Chia-Hoi - Tu Chu

    #5 Fung Hak-On - Au San Yeh

#3 Paul Chun Pui - Chang Chiu Ming

#9 Dean Shek Tin - Chang Tsai

    #8 Maggie Lee Lam-Lam - Hsiu Hsiu

#7 Yen Shi Kwan - Kuo Chiu Ming

    #6 ?????????? - Tia Ta Fu

If Gordon Liu has one of the main roles I'd say this is definitely not a 1973 film - 1978 sounds a lot more likely. Especially since hkmdb gives the theatrical run dates as "Theatrical Run: 06/22/1978 - " :p

The movie was made 1973 and released without success 1973 as "Breakout from Oppression". After Gordon Liu's success with Shaw Brothers the movie was again released in HK 1978 as "Deadly Strike".

Gordon Liu mentions in a interview that it was his first leading role and because of the box office failure he returned to be a stuntman/extra for the next years.
I friend of me have a old article from 1973 with a announcement of the movie.

I have a Chinese version of the movie. Average movie with a few nice fight scenes. "The Monk" with Yen Shi-Kwan is a very similiar movie.

Mr. McMoinsen, your screenshots were more useful than I thought. They are different from the HKFA because they are 2 versions.

In your version it says that Gordon Liu is co-director (with Chia-Liang) and co-action director of the movie (with his brothers). Gordon confessed to Mr. Abbot that he never directed a movie, but he appears in your credits so I added him.

Also according to your credits Yang Fan did not directed the movie, but the HKFA says 2nd version was directed by him and "the Liu brothers" so I kept him.

The HKFA says the writer was Yang himself, but your credits says it was Szeto On, so I added him.

2nd version music was by Tony Chow, but in your version was Chow Fu-Liang.

Also added your chinese alias, prod. company, and assist. dir.

Chun Pui plays the role of: Chang Li, not Chang Chiu Ming.

The role of Kuo Chiu Ming is played by actor nr.7 and that's not Our Yen Shi Kwan.
Image
It's one of leading roles, but as we have 'identified' all names that are on the filmcredits, there's no name left on those credits.
Perhaps his name is the same as the name of one of the bitplayers, who are credited?

Yen Shi Kwan is one of San Yeh's men.
Nr. 6 is Ho Kei Cheong he is called Tai Ta Fu.
Gam Lau (1) plays the role of the blind Mother.

The captures in this post are not on the DB yet!

I did many of the cast additions, but not the role names.
It is correct that Yen Shi-Kwan is one of the thugs and not the main actor at the image. In my opinion the role name must be changed.
