Data addition: HOW PRINCESS IRON-FAN BURNT DOWN...

Additions and modifications to the database

Postby calros » Sun Sep 19, 2004 8:43 pm

This is my first "Songoku"...
Luckily you posted the screenshots of the film, because, as you can see, in your book entry they were not the cinematographer, nor editor, nor costume designer...
In the Webpack they were not that names either...

I added most of them, excepting the editor (I have some problems with the symbols, but I kept the photo in my HD). Also I duplicated the cast.
I did not add the "consultant". It does not exist in the HKMDb that job. It seems to be very important, because it appears alone in the last photo... but I cannot do nothing.

So... have been you!

Mr. Dleedlee, last week we have been on the brink of kill one another because you said that the english titles must not be invented nor translated (nor altered or retouched, I supposed) and now you add (COLOR) to this title. I think nowhere (HKFA File, WebPAC, or that book of Mr. Ciakmull) says (COLOR) in that title...

The particle "(Color)", which, BTW, should be "(COLOUR)", is only used in some films whose original title includes the word "color" (七彩). And, although this film was originally in color, this is not the case...

Yes, I admit this is not an important topic, but I'm a little bored and I want create controversy and more controversy...

In fact, I am more interested in collecting data than controversy.

Both Vol.4 and the WebPac indicate color (or colour, if you prefer the British spelling). I have an inquiry in to the HKFA to ascertain this piece of information. For example, Spy With My Face was made in colo(u)r, though the video is issued in b/w. As I wrote ciakmull, I think this is valuable to know (similar to that other topic). Currently, there is no satisfactory place for this data element.
Lee Tit's landmark operas of 1959 and many others should also be denoted likewise. And the use of '(silent)' would also be helpful and of interest to some, I imagine.

OK, you are right. The HK book and WepPAC say that film is in color, BUT NOT IN ITS TITLE.

We have a cute "Commentaries" entry in the film data... Did not you know it?

 But maybe you are right. We should add (color) in all the films made in color. And also (silent) in all the silent films. And also screen format. And also other technical specifications. For example, we can put, as title,

"Challenge of the Masters (Colour)(Talkie)(ShawScope)(Dolby Stereo) [in Selected Theaters]" (1976).

When we begin?

This time I agree with Carlos. I think that db have to report the official chinese / english titles correctly. For any additional data there's the comment field.

Comment field? Do you the Plot Summary field? Alas, it is not searchable. Perhaps I should suggest a new field to the admin for future upgrade.

There are more solutions, apart from alter the english title. The Summary is not only for the plot; you can note more things (when is an estimated year, when is a "remake" of other film [OK, we can use the link here], when is filmed in 3-D, etc.)

Look what a beautiful thing!

OK, that is not searchable. But... if we put "COLOR" in all the films in color, they will be more than 10.000. Will be they searchable, then?

 Also, the genre is not searchable. How can I do to search "fantasy" films?

But, as desperate solution, you can put, in the "alias": "How Princess Iron Fan Burnt Down the Heavenly Gate (color)". Now it will be searchable...
I don't like this solution, but I prefer this, than destroy the "purity" of the english main title...

to Mr. Ciakmull: THANK YOU!

I agree again. But what we'll do with this entry? Change back the title without "color" or take it as it is now?

I don't want to touch the work of other editors.
I want Mr.Dleedlee to see he is wrong and change himself the title without the "color".

But if he don't want to change it, and I put the correct title, later he can put the wrong title again and this will be the never-end story...

Sorry! :(

(But you are a very friend of him... maybe you can convince him...)

After self-examination, critique and reevaluation, and extensive re-education I submit that I am cleansed of counter-revolutionary thought. I swear to all editors never to blemish titles with 'color/colour' henceforth. The people's will have spoken and I strive to walk in harmony once again on the road of all right thinking people.

You use very cultivated words and my english is too poor (kind of "where did you learn your kung fu?", etc.) but I think you mean "OK".

Thank you.
