Li Tit joined the United Photoplay Actors Training School in 1932. He was the continuity
man and actor for Gunshot at Midnight, Cry of the Cuckoo in the Temple and other
films. He made his directorial debut in 1936 with House Number Sixty-six. In 1940 he
made his fame with the film Poor Souls. Li made near one hundred Cantonese language
films including Everlasting Love, In the Face of Demolition, and The Purple Hairpin.
Among these, In the Face of Demolition is a masterpiece in realism, giving a fine
portrayal of life as it was of among ordinary citizens of that period and their spirit of mutual
assistance. He was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Film Directors'
Guild in 1995.
