| Zhang is a Chinese actress, born in 1979, in Beijing, China. She rose to prominence as one of the most accomplished actresses in Chinese and international cinema. Zhang Ziyi's career started in 1999 with her debut film "The Road Home" (嗡熔瘥鈭), directed by Zhang Yimou (撘箄), which earned her critical acclaim and a Best Actress award at the 18th Hundred Flowers Awards.
Her breakthrough came with her role in Ang Lee's (摰) martial arts epic "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" (扯樴) in 2000, where she portrayed the rebellious young warrior Jen Yu (). The film garnered international recognition, and Zhang Ziyi's performance was widely praised.
