Summary: I loved it!

Let me first say that outside of Stephen Chow, I usually don't like HK comedies. Maybe it's a language barrier thing. However, this film was truly funny. the chemistry between Anthony Wong & Lau Ching Wan is really what made this movie work. Some of the best back & forth dialogue I've seen. The female lead actress while cute, did not give a great performance. Some felt that there were too many harrowing scenes for a comedy. I disagree. There are many films that do the same thing. Most of them are action/Dramas with some comedy. This was an action/comedy with some drama. I highly recommend it.

Wong and Lau are two happy-go-lucky bomb squad members whose lives get turned upside down after one of them (after a drunken late-night threesome) gets a woman pregnant. The two turn into competing "potential" fathers, alternating between refusing and loving the unborn child. Their "real" job starts to interfere when a loony known as the Crazy Bomber starts targeting them.

Bomb Disposal Officer is a good comedy, mostly due to the strong performances of the two leads. Both Wong and Lau -- both regularly tough guys -- are great as the slightly wimpy "experts". They have a nice on-screen chemistry that is simply infectious; unlike many HK comedies, the uninitiated viewer will get just as much out of the film as those who are well-versed in the art. Even though a lot of the jokes are badly translated, Wong and Lau convey so much through their expressions that most anyone will be rolling in laughter. That being said, Bomb Disposal Officer (like many HK movies) does switch gears a few times during its running time; those expecting a light-hearted comedy may be off-put by some of the more violent bits (which make up only a short part of the film).

Summary: Very good

What a name! This is actually pretty funny though, as the film shows the crazy goings on within a bomb disposal team (Lau Ching Wan and Anthony Wong). Nothing too standout, but it is a funny little film that would have gone past without many noticing!

Summary: Starts as a very weak comedy.......

... and changes only 1) to occasional episode of graphic gore, when the bombs blow up, and 2) gripping drama only in the final 20 minutes.

As a longtime fan of Anthony Wong and Lau CW, this would have to be the least entertaining film I have seen either play a major role in. Astonishing, but there it is.

They aren't helped by having Esther Kwan complete the trio. You know all those incredibly annoying child actors which HK seems to produce by the truckload ? Grinning loud and foul-mouthed egomaniacs ? Well, Esther is like a grown-up version. Dear dear. Her acting only becomes bearable when that grin is wiped off her face near the end.

Only for completists. Otherwise, I cannot recommend this film.

John (Anthony Wong) and Peter (Lau Ching Wan) are bomb disposal officers, who seems to find opportunities to get a free meal or ogle at some boobies during their job. Eventually they meet perky Esther Kwan who brings alittle excitement in their lives as they both attempt to woo her but after a drunken night with them, she is impregnated and unknowing which is the father. Meanwhile there's a mad bomber out there, who makes bombs in his own home with the handy booklet "How to Make a Boom". (no joke). This is a comedy but at least the movie knows where to cut the silliness in its infrequent dramatic scenes.
