Ninja in the Deadly Trap

Taking more than a bit of inspiration from Chang Cheh's chop-socky classic Five Element Ninjas (aka Chinese Super Ninjas), Ninja in the Deadly Trap isn't exactly the most ground-breaking film ever created. But with an all-star cast that includes several members of the Venom Clan, this movie will definitely fit the bill if you're looking for some violent old-school flavored action.

Summary: Good

Personally, to me this is one of the best Venoms films that were ever made, but there are certainly flaws, especially with the story – as one of the other reviewers said, it is hard to follow at times. Surprisingly my video does have subtitles with the Mandarin dialog, but even the subs don’t really help. The action on the other hand is excellent, helping you to forget the poor story line and ridiculously bad acting by the majority of the cast (especially Ti Lung and Lu Feng). Still, any fans of the Venom genre should indeed check this out.

Summary: Not too shabby

This was one of my premier introductions to old-school kung fu movies, and it was not a disappointment even though the video I bought only contained the first 50 minutes of the movie. The action is not extremely sophisticated, but I feel it is presented in a half-way-between-old-school-and-new-wave manner, and the fight between Chiang Sheng and Lu Feng was awesome at first sight!

This is the only venom movie without director Chang Cheh. Kuo Choi and others went to Taiwan to make his directoral debute. It looks terribly out of date - the way the film was shot, the super simple plot, the old school kung fu styles, and the low budget - though I'm not exactly sure of the year of production. If anyone knows please share it on the discussion board.

This is definitely an action-packed movie, especially in the second half. The characters are very cool as well. But again, the movie looks like it could have been made in the mid 70s.

Summary: Much action but little sense

If you ever wondered how to get the better of those tricky ninja warriors who use bright orange and shiny gold suits, this film seems to cover every possible defence and attack against them, including how to use ninjas to fry eggs.

Lots of action, hard-to-follow story and moderately entertaining.
