The Lord of Amusement

Summary: meh

Saw this one for half-off in Chinatown yesterday so I picked it up--the cast includes Francis Ng, Nick Cheung, and Ng Man-Tat, among others, so I thought it might be entertainingly wacky. Unfortunately it's really boring and not terribly funny, with bad storytelling and even worse character development. Nick Cheung in particularly is not very impressive--apparently he was in his Stephen Chiau Sing-Chi knockoff phase & he mostly mugs and acts goofy throughout. Francis Ng is remarkably uninspired, although he hasn't got much material to work with, and the whole movie looks like it was shot over a weekend in an empty hostess bar.

I think I want my five bucks back.

Summary: Enjoyable

Nick Cheung and Francis Ng must be good friends with them as the main pair in so many films. They have good chemistry in this one as well, even if they are facing off against each other.

Nick plays a somewhat dumb, but lucky server in a bar/entertainment place (drinks are served, women entertain men by talking and being interested in them). Eventually his luck helps him work his way up to the top, owning a 'bar' of this same sort for himself. There is a lot of bar atmosphere to the movie. Even the final 'fight' scene is a face off against these two mixing powerful drinks for the other. The one who survives is 'The Lord of Amusement'.

I found it entertaining, and funny throughout. Seeing Nick act completely clueless towards the beginning is also fun to watch. 7/10.

Summary: ok comedy

Ok, going off what i remember, had big expectations for this movie, especially because of the cast!! As for me to be the only reviewer of this movie, i guess i'll try to tell you the plot......

PLOT: As far as i remember (which is not much), Francis Ng owns a ......what do you call those places where girls serve you? Well thats the place and Nicky Cheung is there to save the business? OK i barely remember ok!!

As far as i remember, the comedy/plot was average!! I did laugh a few times but not often!! Nicky Cheung does his usual pretty good performance while Francis Ng is a STANDOUT!! Him playing the eccentic owner of the place i can't remember is GREAT~!! He is FUNNY!!

Not much i remember of this movie SORRY!! But HEY, at least you got one review on this, even though it isn't much of one!! IS this the movie with the poster that has one of the actors that looks a LOT like Stephen Chow Sing Chi? or was that the HOLLYWOOD GIGALO movie? To tell you the truth i thought the guy was Stephen Chow and thats why i borrowed it........ But i think i would of given this:

4 out of 10
