The Jail of No Return

Reviewed by: MilesC
Date: 07/22/2000
Summary: Watchable throwaway.

The story? Prisoners are on an island. The guards are mean. The moral? Being in jail sucks. Yet, somehow, it rarely bores. Is it the constant stream of cruelty? Is it Richard Grosse's foul mouth? (Actually, yes, it is. He isn't called upon to do much, but Grosse gives one of the least embarrassing performances by a non-Chinese I've seen in an HK movie, let alone a low-budget, no-star HK movie.) At any rate, while this is hardly something to spend any time or effort on seeing, if you do somehow end up seeing it, you will probably not think it's the worst movie you've ever seen.
