Summary: Good

Not to be confused with one of the 10 or so films called the same name, this is the first one George Lam starred in, and has nothing to do with the Stephen Shin comedy he did with Maggie Cheung 2 years later.

It’s the whole ‘Heart To Hearts’ theme again as George Lam & Carol Cheng come together again in this Wong Jing version of the film. This time Andy Lau joins the cast to complicate matters for the cute couple. Now although Wong Jing never comes up with anything original, it’s not to say that some of his films are not enjoyable, as this one is. Now I may be being a little bias, because I am a big fan of the full cast here, George Lam, Carol Cheng, Andy Lau, Ellen Chan and Shing Fui On, so maybe that made me like this more than many people would.

The story is about Peter (George Lam), a manager of a toy company, who gets a surprise visit from the CEO of the business, (Carol Cheng) who returns to Hong Kong to check out on it whilst coming to her fathers funeral. Peter is running the company while she is away, but the 2 have never met before, and first impressions are not very good, on either side.

Andy Lau plays another businessman, very successful, and a womaniser. He and his assistants (a very nerdy looking Shing Fui On and Manfred Wong) are not very smart most of the time, and are always trying to meet new woman in all sorts of places (including the funeral!). He also discovers that his fathers will states that he will only get his inheritance when he marries, so he is desperate to marry the first women who comes alone, who happens to be Peter’s ex-wife.

Ellen Chan is a supermodel (and Peter’s ex-wife), who Andy meets, and they start their own little romance as Peter strays away.

The rest is predictable as ever for Wong Jing, as Andy & Ellen characters have ups and downs, at the same time as George & Carol like each other deep down and eventually all is well between them all. It’s the same old concept, with a complicated connection between the 4 main characters, but it is funny, very funny at times. This also has some rather pointless comeos by Chingmy Yau, Wong Jing and Nat Chan, to name just a few. In fact, the end gets very stupid as Wong Jing and Nat Chan act like fools in what seems like another film, as it goes away from the mains story and characters for a good 15 minutes. But overall, quite enjoyable.

This one is actually available on DVD, and you can probably pick it up for $5, and so would be worth it, as many of these films don’t get re-released. I would assume the DVD has subtitles, as my VCD doesn’t.

After their father dies, Carol Chen, her playboy brother(Andy Lau), and inventor Frankie Chan compete for the top position in his toy company as everybody switches romantic partners. A few chuckles, otherwise it's like wearing lead weights on your eyelids.
