The english dubbed version was over the top, a few funny scenes, where else are you going to see people purposely going to a leper colony to find someone!! i was expecting more though from this particular scene, no spare parts fell off which was disappointing, it would of made for more hilarity!! The action though is average. And its few and far between.Even the last fight scene, though different, was nothing special But the iron bar traps is a interesting concept. I feel liked i missed something from the dubbed version, at the end when they throw the item in the end because the monk says "its empty" it makes no sense!! Reviewer Score: 6

Reviewed by: steveonkeys Date: 12/22/2001 Summary: Average Lau Brothers Outing Sort of an atypically silly kung-fu comedy from Lau Kar Wing in which Gordon Liu is a monk in disguise trying to retrieve a stolen buddha from Lo Lieh, who is quite funny in this one (also check out his comedic turn in "I Will Finally Knock You Down, Dad." Lee Hoi Sang and Lau Kar Wing, who usually play the meanest of bad guys are weakling comic-relief in this one, which is both refreshing and disappointing, especially if you were hoping to see the Lau's fight each other. There aren't enough quality fights to go around, but Gordon gets a good bit of quality action, which is what you'd expect from the production team. And the disgusting "leper fight" needs to be seen to be believed. 7/10 Reviewer Score: 7

Reviewed by: MrBooth Date: 10/16/2001 Summary: Recommended FISTS AND GUTS - Lau Kar Wing directs, 'our kid' Gordon Liu stars. I watched this over half a week, just managing half an hour at a time when I got into work before passing out exhausted, which didn't help with following the plot. I'm not sure the plot was following a particularly straight line anyway though, so I was happy to just join up wherever it might be at the time. Gordon Liu enlists the help of two greedy layabouts to track down his housekeeper, a master of disguise who stole his family treasure. Much assorted kung fu and comedy ensues... Absolutely great film, Gordon Liu is always a joy to watch, and his comedy co-stars were quite funny too. Lots of kung fu choreography from Lau Kar Wing and Lau Kar Leung, all of it excellent. The leper fight and the 'fight over a box without making a noise' fight are very good, and Gordon's showdown with Lo Lieh is fantastic. Features one of the most booby trapped lairs outside of a TOMB RAIDER game, the presence of which is largely inexplicable (a big locked door would have been easier and more effective), but the entrance to which is very cool. The Tai Seng DVD is a full frame transfer from an Ocean Shores VHS master, but the picture quality is actually rather good. Widescreen would be much nicer of course. The dubbing is... well, dubbing, but not too bad. The comedy cockney accents kind of fit the cohorts, and Gordon Liu sounds as gentlemanly as ever. Recommended!
