Summary: ang lee's debut film...

the film focuses on a chinese guy who's living and working in new york, his american wife (a writer), their child and the guy's father, who has come to america from taiwan after his retirement.

grandfather has been in the house for a month and tension is running high, especially as wife is stuck at home all day, trying to write, but she doesn't speak chinese and he doesn't speak english...

i enjoyed this a lot; despite the obvious fact that i can't remember any of the character's names...

it's a nice, gentle paced observation of different cultures coming together, in a way that doesn't always sit well together. good stuff.
