Lethal Angels (2006)

Hi -

This movie's entry here has the Category as IIB, but the VCD is rated III. There was a huge sticker on it with the CatIII symbol, so maybe some extra naughty bits were added for the VCD?

This was noted just recently over in the scrounge thread by Mike T. The DVD also has a Cat. III logo on the front (although mine's printed right onto it, and not a sticker), but the film is apparently anything but. Not in front of my DVDs at the moment, but I think the back of the sleeve lists a more appropriate rating.

Mike Thomason wrote:Lethal Angels ............. Don't be fooled by the Category III sticker on the sleeve (with Chinese text that proudly proclaims the disc is the "uncensored version"), as it's no such thing -- the TELA only list one version of the film being submitted to them and it runs 97m just like the so-called "uncut" does; the TELA handed down a Category IIB. It's not hard to see why the film was shelved from HK release for over a year... :?

Hmm, I actually liked the movie (but I'm a sucker for Wong Jing's work and the genre in general).

The movie certainly wasn't up to the level of the Cat III "roughies" like Red to Kill, Daughter of Darkness, etc. but there is stuff like a kid getting killed, a couple of rape scenes, etc. so it's not exactly family friendly :b

From the sounds of it, though, the Cat. III sticker was just a clever come-on to make the DVD sales jump a bit. It doesn't seem like those elements were "hard" enough to justify anything worse than the IIB rating that the film actually got. As for the film itself, I'm still not sure what my final thoughts are as I wanna catch the subtitled version first. Good review, by the way. :D

Needed to revive this one for a moment. :D

Finally got around to watching this one tonight, and found it modestly entertaining and stylishly derivative, but a couple things jumped out at me.

First off, in your review, Mr. Blue, you mention Wong Jing as the producer of this film. The DB listing also has him as a producer:
http://hkmdb.com/db/movies/view.mhtml?i ... ay_set=eng
but his name does not appear in the credits or on the sleeve, so I'm wondering how we ended up with that in the DB? According to the DVD, the producer is Manfred Wong (not a presenter as we've currently got him listed, near as I can tell), the executive producer is Charles Heung and the administrative producer is Tiffany Chen. Does Wong Jing's name turn up on a different version of the film? I do seem to recall there being different cuts, including the earlier DVD release I picked up.

Thoughts anyone?

I will probably upload a set of headshots in the days ahead since this film has a lot of actors without any (plus it might clarify the info below), and I could also add credits, although it seems like the entry is rather complete.

Secondly, in your review, you've got Cherrie Ying mixed up with Tien Hsin (aka Tin Sum). Tien plays Yoyo, the conflicted hitwoman who's also an old flame of cop Andy On. Small quibble, but you might wanna update that since yours is currently the only review in the DB. Cherrie plays Emma, the girl who helps Yoyo and the boys escape two other hitgirls, and pays the price with a nasty beating.

Added a gallery for LETHAL ANGELS here:

Four actors I couldn't ID, and they're not in the credits either, so have at it!

(and kudos to Bob for speeding up the upload process. My frustration is finally gone! )

EDIT: Just added names to the group shots and if I'm not mistaken, we seem to be able to add names left to right and have them STAY that way. Sweet! 8)
