Added new prod. company, prod., prod. managers, phot., music, editor, art dir., costumes and 1 actor in the cast.

MP & GI (Cathay) and Motion Picture and General Investment Co. Ltd are the same thing, we should merge them.

I noticed that thing, too.
Sorry Mr. Ciakmull, I cannot do that.
These prod. companies have different symbols in chinese:

 MP & GI (Cathay) 電懋

 Motion Picture & General Investment Co. Ltd. 國際電影懋業有限公司

Maybe the entry of the first company is wrong. I don't know what to do here. :?

any clue :?:

According to the book The Cathay Story, the company lived three phases:

1. The films produced until 1956 should be credited to the former International Films (born from the join venture of International Film (Singapore) and Hong Kong's Yung Hwa). Company's first film is My Wife, My Wife (1955). Last film should be Nonya and Baba (1956).

2. The films produced between 1957 and 1965 should be credited to Motion Picture and General Investment Co. Ltd. (MP & GI). Company's first film is Golden Lotus (1957).

3. The films produced starting from 1966 (after Loke Wan Tho's death, in 20 June 1965; in July Choo Kok Leung will be appointed as general manager) should be credited to Cathay Organisation Hong Kong (1965) Co. Ltd (COHL). Company's first film is The Lucky Purse (1966), co-produced with Mingxing. Cathay stopped movie production in 1971, his last movie been released in 1974.

Here are the logos of the three companies:

In the db I found these Cathay entries, I wonder if there's something more...
1) International Films 國際
2) Motion Picture and General Investment Co. Ltd. 國際電影懋業有限公司
3) Cathay (MP & GI) 電懋
4) Cathay Studio 國泰

Probably a deep research using both the Hong Kong Filmography .pdf file and WebPAC could be helpful.

Wow... I had a doubt and you had an entire book about that topic.

Your info will be very useful. 8)

Unfortunately we have the same problem than before: HKMDb does not allow alias in the prod. companies' names. (If "International Films" changed its name to "Motion Picture and General Investment" in 1957, HKMDb splits that company). I think the only possible solution is using Mr. Dleedlee system: link them.

About your suggestion, I checked your info and I think our symbols of Cathay (MP & GI) 電懋 are not correct, WebPAC says (for example, in the film "Mambo Girl") that they are only an abbreviation of my symbols... I did not see them in your logos neither...

So, if nobody stops me in 7 days, I will merge MP & GI with Motion Picture and General Investment (as you wanted).
