My theory: "Love Eterne" is the first version in (Eastman)color of a famous chinese opera written by Feng Zhifen (馮志芬) entitled "Hu Bu Gui" (胡不歸) [in the west "Why Not Return" or "Why Don't You Return?"]. The first film versions of that story are from 1940, 1947 and 1951. You may note that the 1952 version is entitled "Why Not Return? (Musical)" [that's a clue]
