Were there really two movies made in the same year and same title (English and Chinese) with similar casts but different crew ?
Or could it be a two-parter ?

One is Cantonese, the other is Mandarin version. From the HKFA:

Adapted from the silent film "The goddess", starring famous Chinese actress Ruan Lingyu.
The Mandarin & Cantonese versions of the same titled film were shot at the same time, main cast remains the same, but the production crew and other characters were different.
