Possible Split: Cheung Faan (1)

Just watched COCKTAIL with Endy Chan and Race Wong tonight and in looking up the writer, discovered a possible discrepancy: according to our DB, Cheung Faan, the writer of this film and the likewise decent TRUTH OR DARE: 6th FLOOR REAR FLAT wrote these two youth-oriented films after a thirty-nine year absence from the industry. That's just doesn't seem right...

Cheung Faan

Aliases: Cheung Fan (1)

Actor
The Debts of Love (1948)
Portrait of Four Beauties (1948)

Writer
Little Detective (1962)
To Capture the God of Wealth (1962)
The First Prize (1964)
Truth Or Dare : 6th Floor Rear Flat (2003)
Cocktail (2005)

I can't say for sure, but hopefully someone can provide further evidence of the need for a split here.

I think those films, maybe, should be credited to this Cheung Fan....

or maybe 張帆 (3) or maybe (4) is in order........... :?

Your "Zhang Fan (3)" seems a less likely possibility, based solely on my rigourously scientific method of staring at his picture and pondering his affiliation with bland mainland productions, and largely because both COCKTAIL and SIXTH FLOOR have moderately convincing Hong Kong youth vibes, if that makes any sense at all.

"Numerated" Cheung Fan (2):

The Cantonese and Mandarin name edit fields for all the Cheung Fans just appear as "blank space (2)" etc... I guess that is not intentional?

Actually I can't find Cheung Fan (3) at all... did we skip one?

According to HKFA, our Zhang Fan and our Cheung Fan (2) is the same person, who is one of the writers of TRUTH OR DARE: 6th FLOOR REAR FLAT.

Zhang, #2, and now #5, is the same person.

#5 is a she and here's her radio interview. According to this interview, she writes movies (ie. Truth Or Dare : 6th Floor Rear Flat & Cocktail), radio dramas, books and is also a stage lighting designer.

So it's safe to assume HKFA's got these multiple Cheung Fans mixed up (or oversimplified) more than we do?

According to HKFA, our Zhang Fan and our Cheung Fan (2) is the same person, who is one of the writers of TRUTH OR DARE: 6th FLOOR REAR FLAT.

Zhang, #2, and now #5, is the same person.

As I see them at the moment I write this, you're saying our "Cheung Fan (2)" the writer of CRESCENT MOON (1995)
http://hkmdb.com/db/people/view.mhtml?i ... ay_set=eng
and Zhang Fan (who now appears to be "Cheung Fan (3)" the actor from LAN YU and ELECTRIC SHADOWS
http://hkmdb.com/db/people/view.mhtml?i ... ay_set=eng
are the same person? Or have I got the wrong ones?

Either way, I assume the HKFA, which says this person wrote TRUTH OR DARE and COCKTAIL, is incorrect, now that we have Fan's information, right?

When I search for "Cheung Fan" at the HKFA, I get the TRUTH OR DARE wreiter, plus one other Cheung Fan whom they claim worked from the early 1940's to 2001, which seems unlikely now:

Not the first time HKFA got something wrong.

Search big5 and you'll get a clearer muddy picture...

Wow. Much muddier indeed!

Oh well, I hope our entries for these multiple Cheung Fans are at least a little closer to reality!
