Nice pics :-) The only problem is that some images which could be great portraits are being rejected by the system for portrait status because of the aspect ratio, e.g.

Even if the 'portrait' flag is set, images which are wider than they are tall (by some margin) will be excluded when the portraits are picked for a filmography page. You can tell which by looking at the 'edit images' page... those which will not be considered do not have (port) displayed at all (those that could be considered show it green if the flag is set, red if it is not).

Cropping a bit off the sides of the above should fix them (though, poor Lee I-Min would have to lose a lot if this were to be considered for portrait display!)

So that's what the (x)port means. When unsure of something I tend to favor complicated and difficult explanations over simple and easy ones so I thought that the (x)port represented some type of code specific to this software--or something like that.

The environment in which I am used to working in favors large images and I am still reprogramming myself to the requirements of a more scholarly venue where indicating that someone was in a movie is more important than the "wow" factor of filling the screen with a few hundred thousand razor sharp pixels.

Thanks to everyone who has helped with comments both on the board and through PMs--I am finally figuring out what is really a very simple set of rules.

By the way I have no stake, no pride of authorship if you will, in any images that I post so anyone can feel free to delete or alter any of them. As far as I am concerned I am supplying raw material that might be helpful for those who actually know something.

Being an editor means that the data you submit is subject to the Editor's rules guidelines with regard to change/removal.

Being an Image editor, it's also probably a good idea to periodically review the Image submission guidelines posted by Mr. Booth in the HKMDB Images forum.

The (X) is the delete button.

The (Port) means the image aspect ratio is appropriate for a portrait. Green means it is actually attributed (via the checkbox) to be a portrait. Red means it is not so attributed.

I think you're doing a good job, and your efforts are appreciated :-)

For the most part the 'rules' should be considered guidelines for keeping consistency & quality across the site, and keeping focus on the 'purpose' of hkmdb as a reference tool - except in the very rare cases where an image needs to be removed to keep us on the right side of copyright or 'netiquette', when they're definitely rules

I deleted four pictures that were too wide for portrait status and, having cropped and resized the original caps a bit, re-uploaded as portraits.

There are a few more to do, which I will soon. As usual, it is much easier to get it right the first time than to fix something so this will (one hopes) a salutary lesson in that regard.

I seem to have two portraits of the same person--if one clicks on "edit images" they are next to each other--Yuen Sam and the character Uncle Liu. If I am correct regarding this would someone who agrees delete one of them if that is the proper thing to do?
