Ab-Normal Beauty : question

Postby HKAddict » Sat Dec 03, 2005 8:04 am

In the casting of the movie Ab-Normal Beauty, isn't Wong Yuen Ling (2) (http://www.hkmdb.com/db/people/view.mhtml?id=15808&display_set=eng) the same person as Race Wong Wan-Pei (http://www.hkmdb.com/db/people/view.mhtml?id=16894&display_set=eng) ?

Ekin Cheng is missing as a cameo (he appears briefly in the car crash)

Yes, yes she is. You'll notice on the "Wong Yuen Ling" database entry page, that there is even an alias listed as "Race" (although her usual attributed screen credit is "Race Wong"). And as per my UNUSUAL YOUTH credit screen grabs...

http://hkmdb.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=42782

...she was credited as Race Wong (Wong Yuen Ling) in her most recent Hong Kong movie as well. Not quite sure why she's suddenly become "Race Wong Wan-Pei", and also split into two people, in the database though?

Her screen-credit for AB-NORMAL BEAUTY is in English only, but I can post a screen-grab if anyone requires a secondary confirmation (I would offer the same of LOVE IS A MANY STUPID THING, where she is credited in Chinese...only the disc doesn't play in my DVD-ROM drive). Originating from Singapore, I didn't think that would overtly have an effect on her Cantonese screen credits?

So, once again, this is another one we need to merge folks! If anyone needs attribution confirmation, I can post screen grabs from every film on those combined filmographies bar the above mentioned LOVE IS A MANY STUPID THING, and the brand new CHINA'S NEXT TOP PRINCESS.

Cheers,
Mike

If nobody stops me in 15 days I will merge them.

Anybody else can check if Ekin was in the movie?

The car crash scene in AB-NORMAL BEAUTY (2004) is also in LEAVE ME ALONE (2004), filmed from different angles and in a different context. The latter starred Ekin Cheng and better explains his presence in the sequence in the former. I have both of these and can confirm it. It's a rather clever conceit, really. For what it's worth, IMDB lists Cheng as being in AB-NORMAL as well, although why they put him at the top of the actor list is anybody's guess:

From Ekin's extremely brief (a few seconds) cameo in the film -- this ties the film in with its companion film, LEAVE ME ALONE, made by the other Pang sibling at the same time.

Hey Calros,

Sorry to make more work for you than you already have (or, then again, maybe I could put it forward that this info is up for a change in 15 days?).

Per the above information...

Race Wong
http://www.hkmdb.com/db/people/view.mht ... ay_set=eng

...is creditted nowhere in any of her Hong Kong films that I have as per our DB entry (Wong Wan-Pei). She is credited as "Race Wong" in the English credits, and "Wong Yuen Ling" in the Chinese credits. My evidence is as thus...

JULY RHAPSODY (2002) end credits

SOUND OF COLOURS (2003) end credits

AB-NORMAL BEAUTY (2004) opening credits

As has been noted before, my DVD of Wong Jing's LOVE IS A MANY STUPID THING (2004) refuses to read in my DVD-ROM drive, so I checked it on my standalone Sony player and she is creditted as "2R - Race" (which you're going to have to take my word for, unless anyone else is able to supply the necessary screen grab) therein.

Additionally, here is her entry at Love HK Film.com:
http://www.lovehkfilm.com/people/wong_race.htm

And here is an additional entry for her at Encyclopedia Asian Stars:
http://asiastar-hp.hp.infoseek.co.jp/en ... wong.shtml

(As you'll note, both pages accredit her as "Wong Yuen (Yin) Ling")

Thereby, as per our "most commonly attributed name" rule of thumb I am going to move for Race Wong's DB entry to be changed to "Race Wong Yuen-Ling" (with "Race Wong Wan-Pei" as an alias) in the usual 15 day timeframe. This will also avoid confusion with the "Wong Yuen Ling" that is creditted as a singular entry for "Street Kids Violence (1999)" (which I would be surprised if it was her, as she would have been both still in Singapore and perhaps far too young at 17 to appear in a Cat III film in '99).

Thanks for your time,
Michael

Actually Calros...I'm going to have to leave this for you to fix in 12 days (now); I can't do Big5. And as the entry's whole name has to be changed...
