Recent new AKAs

Postby lawgiver » Sat Nov 26, 2005 3:01 pm

Recently Sofa Entertainment through Ventura have distributed a few DVDs containing 2 martial arts titles, other than the film The Tongfather, they've taken it upon themselves to come up with some original new titles for the films. Below is a list if you wish to include in the database.

Hong Kong Karate Hatchet Men = Duel of the Brave Ones (1978)
Chang Gang, The = Assault of Final Rival (1978)

Revenge Of The Lady Warrior = No-one Can Touch Her (1979)

Karate Frightmare = Kung Fu Rebels (1978)
Karate Death Squad = Killer Meteors, The (1976)

Also, are those here at the HKMDB interested in me posting on a regular basis these new AKAs that companies are creating for new releases? I notice sometimes AKA information from new releases take awhile to be updated to your database. As this is something I do regularly for my database at ProjectAKA, I would have no problem posting regularly for this information to be considered.

I object to them not being added immediately :p

Much as I hate giving Ventura any semblance of legitimacy, we should chronicle any names by which a film is known.

Mr lawgiver, your help in that project would be immensely valuable - please do keep us informed! I don't think any of the editors here pick up those grey market US releases (at least, not regularly).

I've noticed this double feature in retail stores over here:

GODS, GANGSTERS & GAMBLERS/TRIAD AFFAIRS
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00078 ... 1133728885

This is a repackage of two older Andy and Tony movies designed to cash in on INFERNAL AFFAIRS. The sleeve actually uses pictures of the actors from that film, I think.

Anyways, GODS is a (likely unlicenced) retitling of DON'T FOOL ME, according to most sources, although a little image swiped from the Megastar DVD sleeve for RETURN ENGAGEMENT is positioned on the back to make you think it's a screen shot of the menu. TRIAD AFFAIRS is supposedly CENTURY OF THE DRAGON in disguise to avoid paying licencing fees. You'd think there'd be some repercussions against these companies now that they're blatantly ripping off more than just the old "chopsocky" dubs of old.

Glad to see my Amazon review of that release is still considered "Most Helpful" ;)
