Barry Wong (1946-1991)

Postby STSH » Sun Oct 30, 2005 2:34 am

The movie Hard-Boiled contains a dedication, at the head of the end credits to Barry Wong :
"In Memorium Barry Wong (1946-1991)"

..... which means Barry Wong had died some time shortly before completion of the movie.

This raises question about some of the film credits for Barry Wong (id=4833). The DB lists acting credits for films in 1992 and 93, and many writing credits in 1992.

Does anyone know more accurately when he died, and when these movies were made ?
It is possible that the 1992 credits are accurate, assuming the filming/writing was done in 1991 and used later.

Curious indeed, especially the 1993 Yesteryou, Yesterme, Yesterday acting credit. I have it on vcd if if needs to be verified.

Scanning the HKFA database, there's also an 黃炳耀 Wong Bing Yiu aka Pater Wong who's an art director (Tiramisu, Silver Hawk, Justice My Foot (ass't), etc)

The HKFA does credit Barry Wong for writing for Fun and Fury, Operation Scorpio, Twin Dragons, Kid From Tibet, Lethal Contact, Ghost Punting, etc

Also found this site in Chinese that lists similar credits

These sites say he died in 1992.

Sometimes the scripts of the movies are written 2 or 3 years before the movie is filmed, so it is not so strange that Barry appeared as writer of movies from 1992 or 1993.

The acting credit is more strange. As far I know, Bruce Lee and Peter Sellers are the only persons in the world who can make movies 2 years after their death. :?

I think allmov.com formerly impdb.com(?) got the info from Imdb.com, or maybe vice versa.

Barry Wong is in "Yesteryou, Yesterme, Yesterday". I remember to read a interview in which it is mentioned that the movie was released a few years after production.
