Suggested addition to MY NAME IS NOBODY (2000)

Might be good to include the fact that this is, in fact, the THIRD "Gambling Saint" movie, a Chinese-name-only sequel to ALL FOR THE WINNER (1990) and SAINT OF GAMBLERS (1995). Just for continuity's sake and so people avoid the usual Gambling Movie chronology issues...

Also, Ray Pang Lap-wai is in the cast of this film (billed in credits as Ray Pang), and also served as Production Manager. Hopefully, someone else can confirm this with screenshots, etc.

Sorry, I have not seen none of these 3 movies and I cannot "link" them.

Maybe other editor :?:

One way to confirm this without actually watching the films would be to find packaging for ALL FOR THE WINNER and SAINT OF GAMBLERS at online retailers or some such place. The clue on MY NAME IS NOBODY is the "3" after the two-character Chinese title for "Gambling Saint" on the left-hand side of the poster. These two characters are identical on ALL FOR THE WINNERS and on SAINT OF GAMBLERS; on SAINT these characters are followed by a "2." In fact the Chinese text on the English database entries contain the titles. Not sure if that's enough to convince for a linking of the three titles, so hopefully someone else reads this and can concur.

Yes, I noticed the chinese titles have the same "root name" and the number, but that thing does not mean nothing in HK film industry

Firstly, I read the reviews of our people and nodoby says one film is "direct sequel" of the other one...

Secondly, the production company and most of the cast and crew of the first movie and the rest are different...

Thirdly, the characters' names are different too!!!

So I will wait for another editor who have seen all these movies. :? (Sorry)

Ahh...now I see where you're coming from!

You're right to think that these are not so much sequels to each other as they are simply unrelated entries in a series, and variations on a theme. SAINT is only semi-related to ALL in that Ng Man-tat plays essentially the same character under a different name. In fact, the movie references the absence of Stephen Chow's character near the beginning. NOBODY is completely unrelated to the previous two movies other than by title, so I guess that's as good an argument as any NOT to link them together somehow.

My guess is that Wong Jing had so many gambling stories available to him that he simply slapped one of his "franchise" titles on a lot of them to squeeze out a little extra marketability!
