Currently the db lists the release date of Beyond The Great Wall (http://hkmdb.com/db/movies/view.mhtml?i ... ay_set=eng) as 11/21/1964. The Celestial DVD (http://www.celestialpictures.com.hk/sale.asp?Page=2) , however, says the film was released in 1959, which, considering the style of the film, makes much more sense.

My guess is that this 1964 date is a re-release date of the movie after Linda Lin Dai's suicide.

I don't know the day and month of the original release, but the year should be changed from 1964 to 1959.

Sounds convincing, but it'd be nice to have a 2nd source on the release year since it's a fairly major change :) Anyone have one?

I think 1964 is correct for the date of release. I checked HKFA's The Shaw Screen - A Preliminary Study and the appendix lists 11/21/64 as the initial release date. Elsewhere in the book, it mentions that 1959 was when production started but was not released until 1964.

As a third source, I checked the HKFA's reliable and comprehensive Vol 3 Filmography which covers 1953-1959. There was no entry for Beyond the Great Wall to be found though there are other Shaw Bros. releases. That corroborates what The Shaw Screen says.

So, I recommend keeping 1964 as the release date.

Good points, stick with 64. But was there any information on why the film took 5 years to release? That's unlike Shaws; even The Blue And The Black only took 3 years, and that was a very troubled production.
