Iron Angels Vs. Angel - and their DB name entries

Postby Shiomi » Wed Oct 11, 2006 1:43 pm

All three of that GwG series have their English main title in the DB enlisted as "Iron Angels [X]".

Now referring to the cover / box art from HK, the English title is always "Angel [X]", with roman numerals and without any iron. The terms "Iron Angels [X]" were used in several countries, including mine, but not everywhere abroad. IMO it would be best to stick with the original English HK title in the first place. This would lead to:

English title: Angel (used in HK)
Alias: Iron Angels
Alias: Angels (UK release)
Alias: Midnight Angels (US VHS)

English title: Angel II (used in HK)
Alias: Iron Angels 2
Alias: Angels 2 (UK release)

http://hkmdb.com/db/movies/view.mhtml?i ... ay_set=eng
English title: Angel III (used in HK)
(Silly note: on the HK laserdisc, the title is misspelled. You read "Angle III")
Alias: Iron Angels 3
Alias: Iron Angels III (Dutch VHS release)
Alias: Midnight Angels 3 (US DVD)

These are the aliases I'm aware of. I'm not sure if every alias must be mentioned and if the crossovers between arabic and roman numerals in particular should get an entry every time.

OK I know it's not the biggest issue but I feel It would make the DB more stringent.

Opinions?

I agree :-)

I think we should have an arabic alias whenever we use Roman Numerals, since people who search for "Angel 2" could quite reasonably expect to find "Angel II". In this case it would be caught by "Angels 2" anyway, but as a general principle I think it's a wise plan.

Unless the search system can be made smart enough to try the alternative forms :-)

Thanks.

Actually my main suggestion was the exchange of the terms "Iron Angels" (move to: alias) and "Angel" (move to: main English title) at the three movie sheets. "Angel" was the original HK title and should be IMHO with the Chinese title in the main field, "Iron Angels" was an export title. I know the search engine handles terms in main title and aliases.

I don't know if this order of titles is generally considered. If this is not the case, please teach me so and I'll be silent forever. :)

As for the roman and arabic numeral issue, I feel it's better to have both now.

The main title should generally be the English title used on first release, which in this case would indeed be ANGEL - which is also how the film is most commonly known.

I also agree that the main title and alias should be swapped for the 3 films :-)
