Would be especially grateful if somebody could translate the character names (and associate them with the actors!) because I can't ID much of the cast by sight! (I'll have lots of images to upload once I've watched part 2 :p)

I added the info to the alternate version of this movie (Invincible Power of Kindness) some time ago, but now I found some of the credits of this other version are different!

Added 1 prod. company, 3 action directors more, 3 assist. action directors, and sound rec.

About the roles, I am afraid I cannot help you, because remember that sometimes roles "have meaning" and I do not know when

Kung Suen Tun (Man Ma Hall top servant) = Gong Sun Duan I guess?
Wan Choi Tin (Man Ma Hall servant)
Master Fa - Waits all night in street (sheep hat)
Sum San Leong (Woman Of Ma Hung Kwan) - really looks like Rosamund Kwan!
Tsui Loon - Prostitute (id'd as Ida Chan, could be wrong)
Tin Kau (Hunchback) (Five Poisoner Clan)
Flying Spider (Guest)
Mo Yung Pearl (Guest who loves to be late)
Pak Tin Yu (Master Of Super Sword Hall)
Tin Pak Wan - Anita's aunt
Madam Fa Pak Fung - Mum
Liu Siu Kai (Swift Sword) -
Kwok Wai - Brings family to fight
Wong Tai Hung - Fake Husband of Tsui Loon (surely this must be the actor Wong Tai Hung, and the subtitler just got lazy?)
Mister Pang - "Black Bean" customer at Brothel

Do any of those map to the names you have there?

It's no wonder I didn't recognise many people... if our credits are right, more than half the cast never appeared in another HK film!

I think Fung Hak On and Guy Lai are the only action directors of the movie. The other names now added as action directors are all assistant action directors/stuntman.

Sound reasonable... as long as the film is, there's not really enough action to justify so many Action Directors!

There were a lot of action in this movie! And a chariot race, too!!!!!!

According to the credits, there are 1 action director (Fung), 1 "second unit" action director (Lai) and an "action DIRECTORS team" of 5 persons... and later the assistant action directors /stuntmen... but in the "alternate version" of this movie, "The Invincible Power of Kindness", Fung and Lai do not appear even in the credits ( ) and the action direction is credited to unknown Kau Chim Man and Chuk Lik Keung...

"Kung Suen Tun" must be Gong Sun Duan-

"Yun Zai Tian" = Wan Choi Tin played by Chuk Lik Keung

"Ma Hung Kwan" should be Hui Dik San

"Peng Lie" = Master Pang? is Chan Lam

"Ding Bai Yun" = Ting Pak Wan is Chak Ying

"hunchback" is Kau Chim Man

Is that based on translation or visual ID? (If it's visual, where else did these people appear? Still a little suspicious that more than half the cast only have this film to their name!).

Based on the translation of the roles of your own credits.

Those unknown actors are mainly mainland action directors and actors. They have done mainland movies, and some China-HK co-productions.
For example, according to iPAC Kau Chim Man is assist. action dir. of "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" (with Ling Kwan), action co-dir. of "Tai Chi II", action dir. and actor of Frankie Chan's "rare" movie "Live and Die in Chicago"(co-produced by Chuk Kik Leung)... Nip Kwan is assist. action dir. of "The Gods Must Be Funny in China"... Chiu Chak Yan appears in "Go Home" etc.

I see - makes sense since much or most of the film was shot on location in Northern China Be nice to see more mainland martial arts films!
