Just using PowerDVD 4.x set to capture as "original size"... they're big because they're from an anamorphic disc & I didn't resize them, and they're clear because I took some time to make sure I got good frames :p
(using the "step back" button on PowerDVD takes you to the last "I-frame" - i.e. a frame where the whole image was encoded rather than just the difference from the previous frame. Usually these frames will be the sharpest.)
Going through taking captures I realised how poorly compressed the Mei Ah remaster is, incidentally... lots of mpeg artefacts, looks more like a low bitrate DivX rip or something. You don't notice so much when it's in motion though...
I need to update too - they're up to 6.x now! The latest versions have something called "Eagle Eye Vision" that boosts colours/contrast in quite a pleasing way...
Give me a couple of days - only so much wu xia I can take in one dose these days! Luckily I'm off work for another 2 weeks so plenty of time for reviewing the classics (and more importantly, taking lots of captures afterwards!).
