Biography
Born in Guangdong (China), Chen Kuan-tai was one of Shaw Brothers' first real, solidly trained martial arts stars that could in essence be considered a master of martial arts by his peers. He landed bit roles as a martial artist in his first films The Boxer From Shantung with Shaw Brothers in 1972.
Chen branched out as an actor with his tender roles in The Tea House and its sequel Big Brother Cheng both directed by Kuei Chin-hung. The gave Chen the "legitimate actor" status.
After starring in the box office sucesses Challenge Of The Masters and Executioners From Shaolin, both helmed by the legendary martial arts director Liu Chia-liang. Chen left Shaw Brothers. Chen returned to the Shaw's screen with Crippled Avengers in 1978.
Starring in over 80 films, he's still going strong and only makes occasional public appearances nowadays.
