Korean cast and crew in SECRET RIVALS 2 and more movies

Postby Michael Kistner » Sat Jun 22, 2019 9:02 am

I'm sorry if I make someone angry with this, but I must say it:

Someone added to a few movies in the hkmdb Korean cast and often also Korean crew, I guess taken from data of a Korean movie database.

In some cases like

Hitman in the Hand of Buddha and Red Rattlesnake

the cast members look correct because the movies has clearly Korean cast and HITMAN also Korean filming locations.

But there are cases I THINK the Koreans names are wrong (all have no Korean names in the original credits except Hwang Jang-Lee):

The Secret Rivals, Part II (1977) (movie is filmed clearly in Taiwan, I did not see Shin Wu-Cheol, Hyeon Kil-Su and Lim Hae-Rim in the movie!)
The Invincible Armour (1977) (also filmed in Taiwan, I did no see Hyeon Kil-Su in the movie)

I'm not sure with:

Killer Constable (1980) (a few Korean actors are in the cast, a few locations could be Korean, but most looks like filmed in Hong Kong and I did not see Kwon Il-Soo and Lim Hae-Rim in the movie (not watched whole movie again) )
The No. 37 Plot (1979) (I not have the movie to check if Korean actors are in that movie)
The Ring of Death (1980) (a few locations and unknown actors could be Korean)
Heroine of Tribulation (1981) (a few locations and extras could be Korean)

I think in many cases the Korean distributors or co-producers put Korean names in the Korean credits without all actors appearing the movie.

If no one objects I delete the Korean names and crew (of course not Hwang Jang-Lee :D ) from SECRET RIVALS 2 and INVINCIBLE ARMOUR.

Hi Michael

You may consider, that there may be two versions of one movie: One for the chinese and one for the Korean market -
Just as happened with chinese/japanese Co-Production too, like "Zatoichi and the One-Armed Swordsman" which has two different endings and maybe several Shaw Brothers movies made in Korea probably. Thats a possibility IMO.
