Ko Hung, moved to Hong Kong in 1944 and he did become a professional writer.
The turning point of his writing career came in 1945 when he joined the "New Life Evening News" as editor. He wrote serial detective and thriller stories under the name of Xu De. The next year, he was promoted to the position of editor-in-chief. At the same time, his "The dairy of a broker" brought him new-found popularity and fame.
In the heyday of his career at "New Life", he simultaneously wrote feature articles and serial stories for several newspapers, using as many as twenty different pen names.
He continued to contribute articles to newspapers after giving up his editor's position at "New Life" in 1970. He died of cancer in the 80s. (Quoted from HKIFF 1985)
