Wrong translation ? character!!!

Someone told me that the translation of the chinese character ? is LAM and not NAM. As example Nam Wai-Lit would be Lam Wai-Lit.
Another example is Yammie Nam - Yammie Lam would be more correct:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yammie_Lam

In the hkmdb the character is alternately translated with Lam and Nam (and correctly with "Lan" in Mandarin):

??? / (Lan Yi-Ping)
??? / (Lam Nai-Choi)
??? / (Lan Ta-Peng)
??? / (Lam Siu-Lung)
?? / (Lam Tin)
??? / (Lam Tin-Ying)
??? / (William Lan Tin-Hung)
??? / (Laam Tin-Yau)
??? / (Lam Tin-Fung)
??? / (Laam Sam-Mei)
??? / (Lam Man-Ching)
??? / (Lam Ka-Yi)
?? / (Lam Ping (3))
??? / (Blue Lan Cheng-Lung)
??? / (Lan Yu-Ling)
?? / (Lan Pai)
?? / (Nam Yi)
??? / (Francis Nam Chi-Wai)
?? / (Lan Gu)
??? / (Lam Cheuk-Keung)
?? / (Lam Ye)
?? / (Laam Ching)
?? / (Laam Fai)
??? / (Pong Nan)
??? / (Lam Yin-Fan)
??? / (Lan Shi-Wei)
??? / (Laam Chun-Yee)
??? / (Laam Yuen-Bing)
?? / (Lam Hung)
??? / (Lam Sin-Wa)
?? / (Lan Di)
??? / (Lan's Group)
?? / (Nam Long)
?? / (Lan Hai)
??? / (Allen Lan Hai-Han)
??? / (Lan Zhen-Zhen)
?? / (Nam Yan)
?? / (Laam Ma)
??? / (Lam Ma-Lung)
??? / (Nam Wai-Lit)
?? / (Lan Ling)
???? / (Lan Ketsarinh)
??? / (Lan Bo-Zhou)
??? / (King M. C.)
??? / (Lam Seung-Sam)
?? / (Laam Kei)
?? / (Lam Ping (2))
?? / (Lan Ping (2))
?? / (Laam Fei)
??? / (Gabe Lan Chun-Tian)
??? / (Lan Ya-Ling)
?? / (Nam Wan)
??? / (Lily Lan Yu-Li)
??? / (Juzco Nam Yun-Wai)
??? / (Laam Shui-Keung)
??? / (Lan Rui-Long)
?? / (Dave Lam Jing)
??? / (Laam Hon-Sang)
??? / (Nam Ching-Leng)
?? / (Lan Feng)
??? / (Elisa Lam)
??? / (Yammie Nam Kit-Ying)
?? / (Laam Wai)
?? / (Nam Dip)
??? / (Laam Chin-Si)
?? / (Lan Yan)
?? / (Lan Li)
?? / (Lan Ping (1))
?? / (Lan Lan)
??? / (Laam Aau-Aau)
??? / (Laam Yeung-Yun)
?? / (Laam Liu)
??? / (Law Ga-Kuen)

What you all think? Do we now change the NAM names?

Yes, but we must keep NAM as alias.

Spelling vs pronunciation! :D

This might partially explain it, N vs L in Cantonese: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hong_Kong_English#N.2FL
and elsewhere in China http://forum.wordreference.com/showthread.php?t=343346

And FWIW, HK-based companies like Yesasia, Buyoyo spell it Yammie Nam.
Her weibo is no help since she uses the Mandarin spelling.

Same with Wong Cho-Nam/Wong Cho-Lam, ???. I can never figure out which is 'more correct.'

Update - And here is how she is listed in the Hong Kong Performing Artistes Guild website:
YAMMIE LAM KIT HYING |???|??? (Inducted: 1993-12-12 , Actor )

I checked the HKFA and Yammie Nam/Lam is listed as LAM Kit-Ying:

http://ipac.hkfa.lcsd.gov.hk/ipac20/ipa ... ex=NAMEBRP

But some names are listed as NAM like Francis Nam and Nam Nai-Choi.

I see that it is not as easy as I thought to answer the question what is correct.

More examples of different use of the names:

On my DVD cover of FINAL COMBAT Yammie Nam is listed as NAM Kit-Ying
On the cover of my HK-DVD of SEVENTH CURSE Lam Nai-Choi is listed as NAM Nai-Choi
In the HKFA book SHAW SCREEN Lam Nai-Choi is listed as LAM Nai-Choi

If no one objects I change soon the main names

Nam Wai-Lit to Lan Wei-Lieh (like in the HKFA)
Yammie Nam to Yammie Lam (objections?)
Wong Cho-Nam to Wong Cho-Lam (in almost all credits he is listed with "Lam")

I not change Francis Nam because I always see his name listed as Nam on cover,...

Done.

By the way: added 3 images to Yammie Lam from GREED OF MAN (very good TV production released on DVD with english subtitles).
