ID Me: Journey to the West (Chang Cheh 1991)

Postby heinz Germany » Thu Jan 14, 2021 10:23 am

Found 120 pics castpage (http://hkmdb.com/db/movies/images.mhtml ... ay_set=eng) with many ID's still missing and spent some time to fix that: Thanks to Stephe, who marked most pictures with role names. The funny thing was, that the whole cast had role-names allready, but only in Chinese!
And even plenty of pictures with actors-ID's in the credit pictures section, which confirm the chinese role names, too. But seems nobody checked that...?
After translating them to English I could fix nearly all pictures: Ku Wing-Chuen as Monk Tang Xuan Zang, Zhang Ke-Peng (new ID as Pigsy), Wong Yuk-Cheng as 'Leopard' (was wrong tagged with Yao Yu who playes 'Tiger'), Wang Xiang-Wei as 'Goat', Ma Wen as Princess Iron Fan (wrong tagged as Ng Sai-Mei), Du Zhen-Min as 'Ox', Yu Jia (1) (First ID as Na Cha)
But someone tagged Li Ai-Qun (not listed in the cast) , written "Lau Lai-Gwan [aka Li Ai-Qun?] as Princess Jade", but that's wrong
proof: http://hkmdb.com/db/images/movies/14714 ... 1-38-b.jpg Talking about the credit pictures, there are some strange things:
http://hkmdb.com/db/images/movies/14714 ... 1-47-b.jpg is edited with "Wai An" (Why ??) That name isn't in the cast and no role name either: The picture credits shows: Liu Yue as "Mu Chi".. (I will fix that later)

THE BEST SOLUTION: TO ANNOUNCE NEW CAST-PAGES TO HAVE OTHERS CHECKING FOR POSSIBLE FAULTS/UPDATES

In between fixed that “Wei An” (Role name should be “Mu Cha”) First ID of Liu Yue (4) and first ID of Chen Bing (4) as Purple beauty
http://hkmdb.com/db/images/movies/14714 ... 1-42-b.jpg credit say: Actor ?? – now we have this name only as actress Tso Wing yet,
but is credited with Chen Ji-Ming (actually no portrait has tagged Tso Wing yet)
http://hkmdb.com/db/images/movies/14714 ... 1-41-b.jpg credit say: Actor ??? this is mixed up, too I am afraid…
that should be him http://hkmdb.com/db/images/movies/14714 ... 1-78-b.jpg
BTW: Can we change those Cantonese named cast-members to Mandarin, since should be whole cast from Mainland?
Muk Lap-San, Wong Bing-Keung, Wong Yuk-Cheng & Keung Hak-Shing?

Yes, I agree. Announcing new cast pages is a great idea.

I changed that guy from Chen Ji-Ming to (new created) to Cao Ying (1) and splitted that credit from ??(2) now named Cao Ying (2), because from Beijing. (And tagged the real Chen Ji-Ming & Cao Ying of course...)

Still I like to change those Cantonese named Mainland actors to Mandarin names: Muk Lap-San, Wong Bing-Keung, Wong Yuk-Cheng & Keung Hak-Shing - any objections??

Changed back the ID of Chen Ji-Ming because of two reasons:

1. The actor you identified as Chen Ji-Ming was not Chen Ji-Ming :D

2. My version of the movie has different credits like on that images:

http://hkmdb.com/db/movies/image_detail ... ay_set=eng

http://hkmdb.com/db/movies/image_detail ... ay_set=eng

In my version of the movie (copy from the LD) the names are assigned to the correct actors. They reversed it on the version used for the credit images on the hkmdb. Now the IDs of Chen Ji-Ming and Cao Ying should be correct. The role names on my version are the same.

Michael - perhaps add a notation for this in the film summary or editor's notes (I can do it too). The "recordings" feature will allow us to separate and point out problems like this.

Yes, please do. In cases like this where we have to guess romanizations, there are some general guidelines I have outlined elsewhere.

It is better you do it because of your better English :D
