Yoshie Sakakibara, Yoshie Kashihara or Yoshie Kashiwabara
Posted: Thu Nov 12, 2009 6:35 amIn researching an entirely unrelated topic, I stumbled across our entry for the crappy shot-in-England Hong Kong movie GUN & ROSES. The female lead in this was a Japanese woman.
Our DB lists her as Yoshie Sakakibara.

A google search of that name brings up little except a "Miss Fukui" of the same name, who does goodwill gigs at restaurants and such:

IMDB lists the actress in GUN & ROSES as Yoshie Kashihara. Googling this name doesn't return much, mostly the kind of wannabe IMDB sites and shady video retailers that would parrot the IMDB for their listings.
I did, however, find this little oddity called FREE FIGHTER (aka CITY COPS) at YesAsia that supposedly casts her alongside Cynthia Rothrock:

(they're probably confusing her with Michiko, who actually IS in the movie).

My own notes on this movie list Yoshie Kashiwabara as the actress. I don't know, all these years later, where I got that info. I thought it was here, which would mean someone has updated the DB entry since then. A Google search on this name reveals her to be a fairly famous J-pop singer, actress, "gravure" model, etc.:

. . . which leads me to think she may actually be the one in GUN & ROSES, although you wouldn't think she'd need to take a role in a no-budget Hong Kong movie shot in England to attract new fans.
Unfortunately, I don't think I have my VCD of this film anymore. Donated it to the library in my old hometown. So I'm hoping someone else here might have a copy and would be able to post a screen-grab of the actress so we can clear this up. Anyone?
