Questions about this Carlos fellow

No, not the one who works here (though I'm not sure how much I trust a man with mismatched eyes), but this guy:

How does a gweilo with two bit roles to his name get directing gigs on five Category III productions, two with "name" actors?

Possible split? Do we know for sure that the actor "Carlos" was actually a white guy?

The HKFA credit for Le Peintre says 'French painting consultant/dealer/trader'(?), so I guess so.
He was also the stage manager, so possibly could have 'graduated' to director...or just a random pseudonym? I dunno.
???? Better to light a candle than curse the darkness; Measure twice, cut once.
Pinyin to Wade-Giles. Cantonese names file

I'm still very skeptical. This basically would make him the only caucasian to direct five Chinese-language movies of any kind. If that's possible, I'm moving to Hong Kong! 8)
