My first cast page: The Mandarin

Postby Michael Kistner » Fri Jan 11, 2008 8:14 am

With the help of my brother I did my first hkmdb cast page:

http://hkmdb.com/db/movies/images.mhtml ... ay_set=eng

It's not perfect, but I hope it is allright.

I had my problems with the size of the images. Another problem: the images are different arranged if I add names or not. You can see my problem at the last three images. Can someone fix that?

It looks ok to me.

Is this the movie title? I think it's 滿州人 rather than 人州涵.

If you're referring to the order of names under a photo versus the order of people in the photo (left to right), I'm not sure there's a way to do that properly, at least not yet. Even if you add the names in the order they appear in the photo, they almost always display in the wrong order (alphabetical??). I really, really wish we could fix that. :( Not sure if Bob can just tweak the system and they'll all revert to the order they were entered, but it would be a nice feature for group shots.

I've added this to my list of possible updates over in the editors' section.

In the mean time, there's always the Caption feature.

True, but still . . . first time visitors (and regular users, for that matter) most likely see first the names that automatically show up under the group shots and probably think we're all blind . . . 8)

Here's a random example of where I think captioning could help. If I don't know know who Chik Ngai-Hung is (and I don't), from the actor's page looking at this doesn't help me at all. From the film page, even if the actor links were all in order, there's still two rows of actors and all would have to be ID'd to be effective. And if I clicked on the image to get a closer look at the image, the links wouldn't show anyway. Sometimes, a simple Rear: 2L or Front, 3R can be very helpful.

Great point. I can see where captioning would be an asset in many instances around here. Of course, as much as I've known it existed, I never remember to use it. I vote it be made a more prominent feature, at the very least. And perhaps the adding of names to group photos can also be amended with a little drop down menu for "1st row," "2nd row," etc.

Just thinkin' . . .
