All the evidence I can find indicates that this film was produced in 1988, including HKFA page, which mentions awards the film received in 1988.
Propose be changed.

Lead actor's proper translit is Yang Zaibao - propose this be primary name.

And I suspect the director, Ling Ji, is the same person as Ling Ji Fung. They directed a number of movies made by the same company (Hai Nan) and distributor (Hua Wen), but I have no evidence.
