Made film debut with No Retreat, No Surrender 2 when a friend and former stuntman received a call from Roy Horan, who was looking for someone to replace Jean-Claude Van Damme, who opted not to return after starring in the original film. While Matthias was not a martial artist, his natural athleticism earned him the role and underwent martial arts training from co-star and Korean superkicker Hwang Jang-Lee.

Matthias has also showed his acting and action skills in KICKBOXER 2 (1990), DEATH MATCH (1994), FISTS OF IRON (1995) and other films. Recently had a supporting role in GREEN STREET HOOLIGANS 2: STAND YOUR GROUND (2009).
