Reviewed by: mrblue Date: 09/17/2005 For a movie that has "raped" in the title and that features Wong Jing as the producer, Raped by an Angel 2 is actually a pretty tame (and pretty boring) supposed "expoitation" flick. The shred of a plot has a dentist that is also a serial rapist running afoul of policewoman Athena Chu's wrath after Mr. Nasty rapes her sister via a drugged can of Pabst Blue Ribbon. Seroiusly. This movie once again falls under the "rule of Pabst Blue Ribbon"... any so-called "film" featuring that dreaded backwash-flavored swill must be treated like the low budget junk that it is. For those of you keeping score at home, you can take any low-grade crap such as Old Milwaukee or Olympia and I'd wager you'll have the same results. Getting back to the film itself, Francis Ng tries his best as a thug who wants to get in the pants of Athena, but later helps her to wax the sleazeball rapist -- but even an Oscar-winning performance from him (which he seems to be able to pull out of his ass even in "sleep-walking" roles like the one he had in 2000 A.D.) couldn't save Raped by an Angel 2 from dropping into the realm of anonymity and medicority. Really, the only "racy" thing about this movie is its' title. I don't even remember so much as a bare breast in all the proceedings, though Athena Chu in various methods of dress and undress is definitely easy on the eyes to say the least. Also disconcerting for this disjointed reviewer is that there's very little of the Wong Jing trademark bloodshed. The film is actually rated IIB. This is like a "R" to US viewers. Raped by an Angel 2, when viewed as what it's supposed to be, screams out for the Category III stamp of "approval". The rating is roughly equivalent to a US "NC-17", and a sign of all the really good HK sex and guts romps like Red to Kill and this picture's spirtual forefather, the deliciously sleazy Naked Killer (the first Raped by an Angel movie was actually titled Naked Killer 2 on some versions). Movies like Raped by an Angel 2 probably should be more than a bit dirty or violent. There are certainly times where you just need to see boobs or blood just for the sake of seeing them. I can appreciate a good story or acting along with the rest of you, but damn it, sometimes I just wanna see some good-looking women either get naked or kick ass -- preferably both at the same time, and in copious amounts. Raped by an Angel 2 tries to be something other than it really is, and the results aren't fooling anyone. Both groups of viewers that would presumably be this film's target audience -- those looking to check out a nice piece of trim and those wanting a good bloody female revenge flick -- will most likely be disappointed by the proceedings here. A testament to the on-screen talents of Athena Chu and Francis Ng who make this horrible film watchable. This is a disappointing first film from a director who went on to make some better films. Reviewed by: s**** Date: 11/01/2000 One of the more agonizing films in the RAPED BY AN ANGEL series, RAPED BY AN ANGEL 2: THE UNIFORM FAN is almost impossible for the viewer to not fast-forward through, hoping something interesting will happen. SPOILER: It won't. Watching this movie is about as entertaining as watching dust gather on top of your television. Even Francis Ng, whose performances have made bad films entertaining before (YOUNG AND DANGEROUS), seems to be tired and uncomfortable in nearly every scene. His wacky sidekick is one of the more annoying characters in the history of Hong Kong cinema, and that's saying a lot. There's just not much going on here. The rapist in this film, who I guess is sort of the protagonist of the film since none of the other characters ever do anything, has a girls-in-uniform fetish, hence the title. That's about it for the plot, really. He injects drugs into cans of Pabst Blue Ribbon in order to trap his quarry. Well, actually, only once, because nothing ever happens in this movie, but that really was the highlight of this film. Oh, and he's a dentist, and has an abusive relationship with his dental assistant. It's a lot less entertaining than it sounds. Some skips in the soundtrack on the DVD version I saw of this film seemed to indicate that I might have seen an edited version. The film is category IIB, so I don't know why anyone would bother, but sometimes these alternate home video versions crop up, particularly with Wong Jing-related films, it seems. More nudity and violence would have helped the film, certainly, but it still would not have been worth watching. The happy ending is particularly painful. I recommend this film only to the most masochistic RAPED BY AN ANGEL fans out there.
