Summary: Good
I was pleasantly surprised by this film. With a few exceptions, I'll watch Maggie Cheung in anything. But oddly enough, Maggie doesn't dominate this film. Though the star, she is essentially one of a great ensemble cast.
The story is pretty standard murder mystery in a village of odd people stuff, and a few of Agatha Christie's more basic tricks are used. The story is well-paced and interest and even tension are held all the way through. It even manages to get scary at times.
I still have a little trouble accepting Mark Cheng playing a hero, as he does such a great job as a villain, but he plays his highly moral and upstanding police boss to perfection here.
Within HK film, this is an unusual combination. Warmly recommended.
