Story is fairly standard - however I loved the quick montage through his 'recovery' period - almost ironic? But that's probably just my view on it. Lots and lots of fights - you'd probably enjoy this film without any subtitles at all. I have a feeling this film was either very influential - or at least copied all the best bits from a bunch other ones! Essential viewing for anyone who knows their kung fu movies. Reviewer Score: 9

There is nothing this film did that hadn't been done before. But probably as most people who have seen it because Wang Yu was in it, they wouldn't have seen earlier works like this. Reviewed by: Sydneyguy Date: 05/03/2001 Summary: Ummm.......... I saw this not so long ago and by today's standards, the action is slow. I am a fan of Jimmy Wang Yu but i found this boring!! And it's not because i wasn't in the mood to watch it either. I think the part where he destroys his nerve endings to feel no pain in his arm is just a bit much for me!! 3/10

A young man skilled in kung-fu loses his arm to a hired goon from a rival school. He recovers only to discover his school is destroyed. He must take revenge, but how? By deadening all nerves in your his and tempering it to an unbreakable deadly smashing weapon, of course! The best parts of this movie are from the variety fighting techniques from a rouge's gallery of villians. Lama, Thai boxing, and Tae Kwon Do, and Yoga are all in da house and representin'. Not exactly accurately portrayed styles, but still acted out with enough over the top bravado to make this one of the greats. Watch the sequel Master of the Flying Guillotine! 9/10 Reviewer Score: 9

Reviewed by: hkcinema Date: 12/08/1999 This 1970's classic stars Jimmy Wang Yu as a one armed killer seeking revenge. Its actually one of the few hong kong titles that make sense as the plot is about Wang Yu getting revenge on the nine killers that followed out orders to kill his entire large family. He tracks down and kills them one by one, until getting to the leader- no surprise here (but there are a couple of big surprises in the end). The story is good and there is no lack of action (hey its Wang Yu). At first, I thought the one arm bit was cheesy, but I got over that quickly as I watched Wang Yu give some people the beatings they deserved. If the one arm bit does not bother you, then you will definitely like this action packed flick. (3/4) [Reviewed by Adam Scott Pritzker]
