Triple Tap

Summary: Recommended as an escapist thriller

Triple Tap's storyline and character depth leave much to be desired, as Derek Elley describes in his review, but I found Louis Koo's and particularly Daniel Wu's performances compelling. The roles of Li Bing-Bing (distractingly dubbed) and Charlene Choi, who I typically like, are disposable. Clearly could have been better but has enough excitement to be worth seeing as an escapist thriller.

A loose sequel to 2000's Double Tap, Derek Yee's action/drama Triple Tap starts out with a whole lot of promise and a cracking shootout, but ends up taking a nosedive during the plodding second act from which it never recovers, resulting in one of the bigger cinematic disappointments to come out of Hong Kong in 2010.
