Having high hopes for this movie originally, I was thoroughly disappointed.

Firstly, as a Nicholas fan, I was disappointed in the lack of his appearance, altho he was only a cameo.

Eason Chan made no sense at all, and his normally fine singing is terrible as chinese opera. His jokes were lame.

Joey Yung was plain annoying. Altho she is one of the stars in the movie, I just wanted to swat her like a fly.

The part of Wong Chau Sung was totally pointless, and would not have any affect on the movie if it was taken out. It did not link onto any part of the story between Joey and Eason as the star roles.

Some parts of the film I didn't understand. Why did Yumiko puke during gambling? Why didn't Nicholas show up to Joey's last show? If normal people cannot see Joey as a ghost, why could Eason see the ghost audience at the end? You would think he could see Joey becuase she wanted him to see her. Very confusing.

This movie is basically something to promote the EEG stars, especially the newcomer Yumiko. The beginning may have been slightly engaging, with the ghost seens, but from then on, it all went down the drain.

Anthony Wong plays his role well as usual but apart frm that, not mucht o recommend here.

Summary: Pretty good, but some gaps

The storyline is very promising, but at times leaves the viewer unfilled and then there are the subplots that take too much time from the main storyline. The main storyline involving eason and joey with nic (seen in flashbacks) is good until you hit the last 10 mins, when the writers (or anyone else with control over the movie), just kinda gave up. The stand out the of movie is Kate Yeung in my opinion and the singing wasn't that bad, I mean these actors/singers aren't pros at cantonese opera so I give them credit for the effort.

IMO, I think the storyline would have been better if Nic wasn't dead, or if he was dead at least his ghost goes looking for joey's too. But overall a bittersweet movie and for fans of the 4 popstars in the movie it is a must.

Recommeded (4/5)

I'm not a big fan of Eason Chan and his propensity to overact, and this movie didn't do much to change my mind. The film has some good moments, but feels too disjointed to be truly engaging -- the stylistic and narrative jumps between the period scenes with Joey and Nic Tse, the Cantonese Opera scenes (lots of them - and even I could tell that the singing was just BAADD), and the modern scenes (which feature a lot of gratuitous rapping, and at one point even some Twist dancing...) felt jarring, there was one too many storylines, a rather weak and unsatisfying resolution, and so I walked away rather bored.

On the plus side, production values were good, Anthony Wong for once actually tried hard, and the film did have some eye candy and not too much sentimentality.

Marginal recommendation at best.
