Summary: A cantonese opera, captured on celluloid by John Woo.

John Woo directed this picture about the tragic life of Princess Chang Ping. After directing a couple of action oaters, Woo filmed this beautifully costumed cantonese tale about two lovers destined for a romance that was doomed from the beginning. I wished there was a print availible with english subs so I could enjoy the dialogue that goes with this sad,picturesque musical.

A beautiful Cantonese opera about the forbidden love between aprincess and a scholar. It's feudal China and the two would rather die than not be together. The musical is lavish in colour (like THE KING & I) and has two females in the lead. It is a nice change of pace, but not typically Woo.
