Summary: Love HK Style.....Delightfully Funny

"Modern Romance" is an anthology of four love stories concerning different workers from an advertising agency. This is basically a long version of the 1970's American TV comedy "Love American Style", except using Hong Kong stars and humor.

Wong Jing is known as the madman of HK cinema. His movies are known for low-brow humor, and this one is no exception. Lots of sexual jokes and innuendoes throughout the movie.

All four stories are entertaining in their own way, yet the only thing holding them together is the fact that all four subjects are friends in the same office. I enjoyed the final story concerning "The Assertive Woman" (Chingmy Yau) the most, although I am biased because of my fondness towards Ms. Yau. Michael Wong plays her romantic partner and does so mixing his apparently poor Cantonese with his native English throughout. This story is very reminiscent of the John Wayne/Lorena Bobbit case, except with a more pleasant ending.

I cannot give this movie high praise as far as technical or creative merits are concern. However, I found it very entertaining and funny, as I laughed throughout the movie. Although Wong has his critics, with every work of his that I've seen, I've been entertained. I recommend this film only for fans of the stars or if you just want a good romantic comedy. [7/10]

Superstitious Ady (Christy Cheung) feels she can only marry her twentieth boyfriend, and that he has to have been born in the year of the Ox. There's a problem -- he's impotent, and pisses whenever he's kissed. Liza (Ng Ka Li) is having affairs with a cop, a married man, and her former husband, but nobody knows (yet). Po Chu is a lesbian who's being pursued by a writer. Mistrustful Chanel (Chingmy Yau) seems to have found Mr. Right, but she suspects an affair. As you can tell, none of this fits together exactly.
