Plot Summary:
Su-Lan helps her mother run a restaurant while her sister Su-Fan runs around. Su-Lan meets Tsi-Min through her uncle and his father who are friends. The two become engaged after his parents and her mother and uncle agree, even though Su-Lan is of a lower background. The engagement is jeopardized after a rumour about Su-Lan’s mother is started by a grocer. Su-Lan’s mother has been meeting her ex-lover and benefactor, now ill and dying, every Saturday. Su-Lan breaks off her engagement and leaves home, as does Su-Fan. Tsi-Min intervenes and listens to their mother’s explanation. The two daughters return home and reconcile with their mother. Su-Lan and Tsi-Min agree to get married again.
