Godfrey Ho hijacks the 1984 Filipino film “Hatulan Si...Totoy Angustia” and creates more ninja madness involving Richard Harrison! Ignoring the original plot, Ninja Squad invents a new story instead. Billy (Ray Malonzo) has just returned to the city after training as a ninja throughout his childhood. Unfortunately, his family is destitute and being constantly harassed by the neighborhood crime syndicate. Billy’s mother and brother are killed and his sister kidnapped, and his girlfriend’s father, the chief of police, ignores his pleas. He decides to take matters into his own hands with the help of some locals. In the meantime, Gordon (Richard Harrison), the top ninja, is being challenged by Ivan the Red (Richard Wheeler). Ivan threatens to keep killing ninjas until Gordon faces him in a duel. Eventually Gordon cannot stand idly by while innocent ninjas are massacred, so he accepts Ivan’s challenge. Is anyone expecting a masterpiece? The original movie is terrible, with everyone walking around with M-16s and shooting anything that moves. It’s a standard revenge plot with nothing new added. The ninja plot may be even worse, with Richard Harrison moving as slow as molasses and Richard Wheeler taking about 10 seconds to kill his ninja opponents. The final duel makes no sense and is wrapped up in record time. Unless you want to have a ninja film playing in the background of a get together, feel free to avoid! Reviewer Score: 3
