HKMDB DNS Issues

Postby bkasten » Wed Sep 02, 2009 2:31 pm

As the result of a server decommissioning, a problem with DNS came out of the woodwork. Networksolutions, a registrar I use, was keeping some old glue records (on the DNS tld/root servers) for my name servers. This resulted in hkmdb essentially disappearing from all of the intarwebs until the records could be cleared by the root server admins, and all the DNS caches timed out.

In English, what this means is that hkmdb was down because of a screwup by a domain registrar. It is mostly fixed, and things should clear up over the next day or two.

This should be considered a "rare event"...that is, until another "rare event" comes up and takes the site off the air...
