Summary
Buenos Aires Zero Degree (put together by Kwan Pun-Leung, cinematographer on Stanley Kwan's The Island Tales, and his partner Amos Lee) is not so much a documentary on the making of Happy Together as an alternative version of that film. Kwan and Lee did visit Argentina to find traces left by Wong and his crew, and did interview some of those caught up in the adventure of its production. But most of their film is composed of unused rushes from Wong's pic - including alternative endings, rejected narrative twists and liberal chunks of Shirley Kwan's performance, which was cut out of the film itself. An absolute must for anyone interested in Wong Kar-Wai and Happy Together, and a fine piece of work in its own right. Tony Rayns (filmfestivals.com)
