Summary
The Sniper is director Dante Lam's newest cops-and-robbers thriller, assembles the smartest masculine in mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. They are Richie Jen, Huang Xiaoming and Edison Chen. Principal photography commenced last year with a production budget at HK$ 30million, this new breed of action genre film promises to turn the Hong Kong metropolis upside down into a battle field of magnificent shooters. The story of The Sniper focuses on a sniper of the police force and his former teammate and superb marksman, who has just been released from jail. The marksman want is not money but challenging and take on the police. Meanwhile, the hot-headed rookie on the police team is keen to top this marksman's shooting skills. The three men, having their own contemplation, will wage a life-and-death battle with their gun. Director Dante Lam, with his high firearms knowledge, displays the modern battle, and explores the shooters thought. From the thrilling plot, he brings out every shaking screen. No righteousness in battles, conspiracy in games of games, the giants ambition just like a bullet passing through. All these elements produce the 2008 most active cops-and-robbers pitched battle. (Media Asia) Screened initially at Cannes in May 2008 but the theatrical release was delayed due to the Edison Chen photo scandal.
