Lau Ching-Wan plays a priest who has sex with Almen Wong. She later accuses him of rape. Carman Lee plays his lawyer. Eric Tsang has an interesting role as a gangster who comes to Lau Ching-Wan to confess after each of his murders.

I rented this film based on the strength of the cast (Lau Ching-Wan and Carman Lee) but nobody could have saved this stinker. The script couldn't decide on a point of view or a style in which to tell the story. This pretty much kills the film since it's supposed to be about serious moral issues. Switching between multiple comic and dramatic viewpoints doesn't allow any of these issues to be explored. The only decent thing in this film is Eric Tsang's role, which was well played and actually raises some interesting questions. Unfortunately, the film is so weighed down by its overall poorness that this can't even come close to saving it.

A true must not see.

I didn't enjoy the film as much as Derek Chiu's last effort, The Log. If it wasn't for Eric Tsang Chi Wai's award deserving performance (as opposite to Comrade Almost the Love Story) the film probably wouldn't have been as enjoyable. Lau Ching Wan's character is almost unreal, and the story was somewhat forced. I found myself really relating to Eric Tsang's character. The film is worth a look.

Style and content are way out of step: a beautifully filmed movie, with a visual intelligence and freshness of invention that matches the director's previous film, the brilliant "The Log". But the heavy, misogynistic plot weighs down an otherwise mature script, and prevents a fine cast from sinking their teeth into anything worth acting. A shame. Perhaps the problem was producer-driven.
